Ondulane

Weekly news & podcast — Toronto's west end

The west end, read and heard in one place.

Ondulane covers Liberty Village, Parkdale, Queen West, Trinity Bellwoods and the Ossington strip in a twice-weekly site and a Thursday podcast. We sell three advertising placements directly to local businesses — no agency, no minimum spend beyond the rate card below.

Three ways to reach the west end

Sidebar Placement — One Week

A sidebar placement across every article on ondulane.ca for seven days, built for shops, studios, venues and service businesses along Queen West, Ossington and the surrounding blocks. We adapt your existing artwork to fit and send an impression and click summary when the week ends.

Mid-Episode Audio Spot Series

Four 30-second spots, produced by our studio team from a script you approve, placed at the midpoint of our weekly local news podcast. Built for businesses across the west end who want a polished, produced sound rather than a read-live ad. Includes scripting support, a recording session and per-episode listen counts for your records.

Promenade Partnership

A five-week presence across the site, the newsletter and the podcast: four host-read mentions, four newsletter credits and one partner-labelled article. Built for organizations who want readers and listeners to meet them in both places, with planning, creative coordination and a closing report at the end.

02 — Who reads and listens

Neighbourhood readers, not a mailing list

Ondulane started as a coverage gap: the west end has plenty of foot traffic and very little dedicated local reporting between the downtown dailies and the neighbourhood group chats. We write about zoning meetings, new openings, transit changes and the small stories that make Liberty Village different from Parkdale, and Parkdale different from Trinity Bellwoods.

The podcast runs the same territory in audio: a Thursday episode built around one or two of the week's stories, recorded from our Atlantic Avenue studio. Advertisers reach whoever opens that week's site or that week's episode — we don't promise a number beyond what's in the rate card, because we'd rather report the placement plainly than dress up a guess.

03 — How booking works

From message to publication

1

Send your details

Tell us which placement fits and share any artwork or a script idea through the form below.

2

We confirm scheduling

We reply within one business day with an open slot and, for audio spots, a short script conversation.

3

We build the placement

Artwork is adapted, spots are recorded in our studio, or partnership elements are scheduled across issues.

4

It runs, then we report

At the end of the run you get an impression and click summary or listen counts, depending on the placement.

Read the full process on the services page.

04 — What's not included

Kept out of the rate card on purpose

  • Copywriting from scratch — we adapt what you send us; a full ad-writing service isn't part of these three placements.
  • Exclusivity in a category — more than one business in the same line of work can run placements in the same week.
  • Editorial coverage — a booked placement is clearly labelled advertising and never becomes a news story or review.
  • Social media posting — placements run on the site, in the newsletter and in the podcast only.

05 — Questions

A few things people ask first

Do I need to be based in the coverage area to advertise?

No — you need to be relevant to it. Most advertisers operate in Liberty Village, Parkdale, Queen West, Trinity Bellwoods or along the Ossington strip, but a business just outside that line serving the same customers is welcome too.

Can I supply my own recorded audio for the podcast spot?

You can supply a script for our team to record, or bring a script you'd like adjusted for radio-style delivery. We record in-house so the spots share the show's sound quality.

What happens if I need to cancel a booking?

Our cancellation and refund terms depend on how close to the run date you cancel — the full policy is on our terms page.

06 — What to have ready

Before you get in touch

For a sidebar placement

A static image or simple banner artwork (we can resize it), a destination link, and the business name as you'd like it shown.

For an audio spot or partnership

A rough script or a few talking points, your preferred air weeks, and one contact for approving the recorded read before it airs.

07 — Scope limits

What Ondulane doesn't do

We don't run political advertising, don't sell placements in categories that would need a licence we don't hold, and don't blend advertising copy into news articles. A partner-labelled article is always marked as such, top and bottom.

We also don't chase a wider coverage area than we can actually report on. If a placement would be better served by a citywide outlet, we'll say so instead of taking the booking.

08 — What every booking includes

Standard with every placement

  • One point of contact for scheduling and approvals
  • Artwork adaptation or script-to-recording support
  • A closing report matching the placement type
  • Editorial independence — placements never edit our reporting

09 — Coverage area

Registered on Atlantic Avenue, reporting the west end

Our studio and office sit on Atlantic Avenue in Liberty Village. From there we cover Parkdale, Queen West, Trinity Bellwoods and the Ossington strip on foot and by transit — the map below shows exactly where.
